BeschrijvingGrote baluster gevormde dekselpot van Chinees porselein. Zeer lage, zeer brede, voetrand; eivormige wand; liggende, korte schouder; korte, wijde bijna rechte cilindervormige hals. De deksel met sluitrand; schuin staande, korte liprand, hooggewelfd gedekt; kort gesteelde, kogelvormige knop. Versierd in famille verte email met onderglazuur blauw, groen, geel en aubergine email en ijzerrood met twee vrouwen te paard, een waardigheidsbekleder mt zijn bediende en en vijf musicerende vrouwen. De bodem is ongeglazuurd. Op de schouder een band met 'crackled-ice' of 'stone-wall' patroon, de hals met twee groepen bloeiende planten. Het deksel is versierd met vijf spelende kinderen in een omheinde tuin.
De vorm en de ongeglazuurde bodem zijn typerend voor de Shunzhi periode. Het krachtige, heldere email kleuren kondigen de late famille verte stijl aan, maar zijn toch nog met onderglazuur blauw gecombineerd.
Het is opmerkelijk dat dergelijke potten ruim vertegenwoordigd zijn in Europese collecties gezien de problemen die de VOC had na 1645 met het organiseren van de porseleinhandel. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk zijn deze potten door privé handelaren verscheept.
Tall baluster-shaped jar on a very low, wide footring, with a spreading foot, the body curving to the flattened shoulder. A wide, almost straight neck, the domed cover with circular knob. The base is unglazed. Decorated in underglaze blue and bright enamels. On the body a landscape with a scholar/official and his servant, five women playing music and two women riding galloping horses. The scene is enclosed by red spiralling clouds. On the shoulder a band with a ‘crackled ice’ or ‘stone wall’ pattern, on the neck two groups of flowering plants and rocks. On the cover five children playing in a fenced garden.
The shape and unglazed base are typical of the Shunzhi period. The bold, bright enamels herald the later famille verte style, but are still combined with underglaze blue. It is remarkable that such jars are not rare in European collections; given the difficulties the VOC had in structuring their porcelain trade after 1645, these jars were probably shipped by private merchants.
