BeschrijvingEen zeldzame theekom van Japans porselein op een brede, platte voetring met een iets spreidende rand en ongeglazuurde bodem. Versierd in onderglazuur blauw. Op de buitenkant aan de ene zijde een rivierlandschap met een groep figuren op een boot, een man die twee zittende figuren aanspreekt, de bootsman die stuurt en nog een figuur. Op de achtergrond bergen, bomen, een huis en de maan in een sterrenhemel. Op de andere kant een verkorte versie van de Chi bi fu, een Chinees gedicht geschreven door Su Shi (1037-1101) genaamd de "Ode aan de Rode Klif", een plek langs de Yangtze-rivier. Het vertelt het verhaal van een boottocht van Su Dongpo met gasten over de Yangtze-rivier in 1082. De mannen zijn op hun gemak, drinken wijn, spelen fluit terwijl de boot onder de rode kliffen op het water drijft. Ze hebben een filosofische discussie over de kortheid van het leven en de veranderende en veranderlijke aspecten der dingen. Kommen met deze scène zijn ook te zien op twee stillevens uit 1627 en 1638 van de Franse kunstenaar Jacques Linard.
One side of the exterior of the teacup shows a riverscape with a group of figures on a boat, one man standing addressing two seated figures, boatman steering and another figure at the back with mountains, trees, a house and the monn with a constallation of stars (indicating that this scene was taking place at night). On the other side an abbreviated version of the Chi bi fu, a Chinese poem written by Su Shi (1037-1101) called the "Ode of the Red Cliff", a spot along the Yangzhi-river. It tells the story of a boating trip of Su Dongpo with guests over the Yangzhi-river in 1082. The men are at leisure, drinking wine, playing the flute while the boat is drifting beneath the red cliffs on the water. They engage in a philosophical discussion about the shortness of life and the changing and changeless aspects of things.
