BeschreibungSchotel van Chinees porselein op voetring, groefrand en spreidende wand. Versierd in famille verte emailkleuren met grote bloeiende lotusplanten en bloemen over het gehele vlak.
Dit karakteristieke Kangxi bord, van omstreeks 1700, heeft een groefrand. Dit type voetrand werd na 1685 toegepast. Interessant is te zien dat de decoratie niet is omsloten door randen of banden. De lotus is een Boeddhistisch symbool voor zuiverheid. In het Chinees zijn er twee woorden voor lotus, 'lian' en 'he'. Het eerste woord lijkt fonetisch op 'liefde', 'eerbaarheid', 'verbinden' en 'continuiteit'. Gecombineerd met andere motieven symboliseert de lotus grenzeloosheid.
Dish on a channel footring, with curved sides and a spreading rim. Decorated in famille verte enamels with large lotus plants and flower buds protruding from water, the decoration covering the entire surface. Marked on the base with an artemisia leaf in a double circle in underglaze blue.
This typical Kangxi dish of c. 1700 has a channel footring, proving that this specific type of footring was used after 1685. It is interesting to note that the decoration is not confined by borders or bands. The lotus is a Buddhist symbol of purity. As Eberhard mentions (refs.), there are two Chinese words for lotus, lian and he. The former has phonetic similarities to ‘love’, ‘modesty’, ‘to connect’, ‘to bind’ and ‘uninterrupted’; when combined with other motifs lotuses therefore symbolise limitlessness.
