DescriptionSpuugpot van Chinees porselein. Chinees Imari. Versierd in onderglazuur blauw en emailkleuren (verdwenen) met pioenrozen en een gestileerde bloemtak op het lusoor. Het is een korte tijd mode geweest om na een al te copieus diner een speciaal porseleinen spuugpotje te gebruiken.
Dit voorwerp is geborgen uit het wrak van het VOC-schip Geldermalsen dat in 1751 vertrok met een lading thee, zijde en porselein uit de Chinese exporthaven Canton naar Nederland. In januari 1752 leed het schipbreuk in Straat Banca en zonk. Enkele overlevenden wisten met een sloep Batavia te bereiken en deden daar verslag. Het porselein werd in de 20ste eeuw opgedoken door Michael Hatcher.
