DescriptionSpuugpot van Chinees porselein. Versierd in onderglazuur blauw met op de buitenzijde pioenrozen en bamboetakken komend uit een rotspartij. Op de ombuigende rand panelen met pioenrozen afgewissled met traliewerkpatroon. Een gestileerde bloemtak op het oor. Het is een korte tijd mode geweest om na een al te copieus diner een speciaal porseleinen spuugpotje te gebruiken.
Dit voorwerp is geborgen uit het wrak van het VOC-schip Geldermalsen dat in 1751 vertrok met een lading thee, zijde en porselein uit de Chinese exporthaven Canton naar Nederland. In januari 1752 leed het schipbreuk in Straat Banca en zonk. Enkele overlevenden wisten met een sloep Batavia te bereiken en deden daar verslag. Het porselein werd in de 20ste eeuw opgedoken door Michael Hatcher.
