DescriptionThe accordion-folded book Sessanta verdi naturali, conceived in 1977, assembles a number of illustrations showing only green plants, and sometimes only their details. With this project, the artist has undertaken a fundamental investigation into the effect of colours. In a short text, Nannucci sets out his approach. While comparing industrially produced paints, he realised how much individual shades differ despite bearing the same name. He decided to counter this artificial determination of colour tones with a selection of green plants in order to come up with his own, nature-based nomenclature. In order to obtain data that was objective as possible, he specified not only the conditions for photographing each plant but a uniform frame within which each plant appears in its original size. The accordion-folded book with its 24 pages, each showing three image details, is only an excerpt from Nannucci’s complete colour catalogue. But its very nature as excerpt demonstrates the fundamental impossibility of the project, because the number of existing green plants is much too large to ever fully catalogue and integrate them into an overall scheme.
