DescriptionSchoteltje op voetring, opstaande wand zonder rand. Aangebakken ovenzand, oneffen glazuur. Ko-sometsuke type. Versierd in onderglazuur blauw met een olifant, de kop naar links gewend, op zijn rug een zittende figuur. Boven twee wolken en zon/maan.
A small plate on footring. Without a rim. Baked oven sand, with an uneven glaze. Ko-sometsuke type ('old blue and white') porcelain. This type of porcelain was produced specifically for the Japanese market during the final decades of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
The plate is decorated in underglaze blue with an elephant, head turned to the left and a sitting figure on his back. Above two clouds and a sun or moon.
