DescriptionGrote, diepe kom van Chinees porselein, op hoge voetring. Famille verte, versierd inde emailkleuren groen, blauw, geel, aubergine en zwart ijzerrood en goud. Op de wand een doorlopende voorstelling van bloemen bij een hek, een rots, 'de drie vrienden' (pijnboom, bamboe en prunus) met twee vogels. Op de binnenzijde op het plat een tempel bij een rotswand, waarin een waterspuwende draak met parel op zijn kop; in de waterval en de golven een opspringende karper. Op de bovenrand een band met groen 'kikkerdril' waarin insekten en vlinders, onderbroken door zes cartouches met bloemen. Onder op de bodem het ingegrifte merk N:8 I, duidend op herkomst uit de collectie van Augustus de Sterke in Dresden (begin 18e eeuw gevormd).

Decorated with famille verte enamels with a continuous scene of flowering plants near a fence, a taihu (garden) rock, the ‘three friends’ (pine, bamboo and prunus) and two magpies. Around the inside of the rim a border with six cartouches filled with flowers on a ground of green ‘frog-spawn’ with pairs of butterflies. In the centre a dragon in a pavilion on a rocky shore spewing water at a carp rising from the waves. On the base the incised number ‘N:8 I’.
This strongly and exuberantly painted bowl was part of the collection of August the Strong in Dresden, as is clear from the incised number that indicated the ‘green porcelains’. A single magpie is a good omen and the herald of joyful news; two magpies symbolise love and marital bliss. The combination of carp and dragon is widely used, but this specific iconography in which the dragon spews water at the carp has not been explained yet.
