Créateur Davi Det Hompson (vervaardiger)
DescriptionDavi Det Hompson was primarily known for making artists’ books, at a time in the 1970s when they had become a significant medium for artists in the Conceptualist tradition. Hompson studied at Anderson College in Indiana, and received an MFA in graphic design from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1967. His earliest works, from his student years and still bearing his unmodified name David E. Thompson, reflect a direct influence of the Fluxus movement, and he was included in the important travelling exhibition Fluxshoe. In the late 1970s he produced a series of simple, pamphlet-like books, such as Understand, This Is Only Temporary, and You Know It Has to Be a Hairpiece using fragments of dialogue, reminiscent of Ida Applebroog’s books from the same period. Later examples further deconstruct language into abstract letterforms and pure line. He also produced text-based sculptures and wall installations that elaborated these same interests.
